Internet Marketing One Niche Store Vs. Multiple Niche Sites
Internet marketing can allow you to break free from the rat race and earn an income from home. Many business models are available for building online sites, from selling your own products to being an affiliate who sells other people’s products. One of the most hotly contested issues is whether it’s better to have one large niche store — an “authority site” — or several smaller niche sites.
Definition
If you choose to have one niche store, you would choose a fairly large niche, such as “weight loss” or “golf.” Within that niche, your site would contain hundreds or thousands of pages, each focusing on a different area of the niche. There’s more competition within these types of generalized sites. If you choose multiple niche sites, you would pick a more narrowly defined niche to work with, such as “post-pregnancy weight loss” or “left-handed golf clubs.” Your sites may all have a similar theme, such as golf, or they could be completely different. Since there is less competition for these niches, it can be easier to rank them in the search engines.
Cost
The monthly costs of running one niche store or multiple niche sites is usually about equal. When it comes to setting up the sites, though, there are potential extra costs — purchasing a domain name, web design and content creation, for example. You may do a lot of the work yourself, but you will still have to pay the yearly domain registration fee, which makes running multiple niche sites more expensive.
Search Engine Optimization
Both types of sites can do well with search engine optimization. In general, the search engines tend to prefer large authority sites over smaller niche sites, especially when people are searching for general search terms. However, small niche sites can do well when they are tightly focused on a narrow market. In both cases, you should research the terms that users are searching for and create pages based on those terms.
Best for You
Creating money-earning websites is a personal choice. If there’s a topic that you’re passionate and knowledgeable about, a single niche store may be the best one for you. However, if you tend to get bored easily or have a broad range of interests, you may find that setting up multiple sites is more appealing.
